Marketplace requirements: invoices and proof of origin for online sellers

Why marketplaces may request supplier invoices, what they should contain and how a wholesaler can support you.

Large online marketplaces may ask sellers for proof of where their goods come from – for certain brands, categories or as part of reviews. Each marketplace sets its own requirements and may change them at any time.

What a supplier invoice typically should contain

  • Full company and contact details of the supplier
  • Your company details as buyer
  • Invoice date and invoice number
  • Clear item descriptions and quantities

Realistic expectations

No supplier can guarantee approval by a marketplace – that decision rests solely with the marketplace. What a wholesaler can provide: properly documented goods from traceable sources.
